Blackpool leads the way for disabled passengers

Blackpool is playing a leading role in improving transport experiences for disabled people.

Resort-based campaigner Stephen Brookes has been appointed Sector Champion for Rail by the Secretary of State for Disability.

It follows the appointment 12 months ago of Blackpool Transport managing director Jane Cole as Bus and Tram Sector Champion.

Ms Cole said: “The whole transport industry in the UK now looks to Blackpool for advice and examples of best practice on how to make the transport experience for disabled people better.”

There are 11 sector champions in total across different areas of life whose role is to promote inclusion for disabled people and tackle the issues they may face.
