Blackpool Illuminations 2018: What you should know about Alfie Boe

Born Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe in Blackpool in September 1973, and raised in Fleetwood, Alfie's first performance was at Marine Hall at 14.

At 17, he became an apprentice mechanic at the TVR factory in Bispham and, while singing on the job, was overheard by a customer with connections in the music business.

After successfully auditioning for the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company in London, he embarked on a singing career.

Since his debut performance in Fleetwood 31 years ago, Alfie has risen to become Britain’s best selling vocalist of his generation. Earlier this year, he was celebrated in his hometown as part of BBC Music Day, when a plaque was unveiled at Marine Hall.
