A SCRUTINY committee meets next week to consider whether to look at issues concerning Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Coun Kiran Mulholland has requested Fylde Council’s Community Focus Scrutiny Committee considers looking into the circumstances around the hospital, which is one of five in the country to be placed under investigation by the NHS Commissioning Board over its higher-than-expected death rates.

Coun Mulholland asked for the committee to gain an understanding of who is reviewing the performance of the Trust and why the issues were not identified earlier.

A report to the committee says the subject is worthy of scrutiny as a poor performing service in an area of public concern, with a wide impact.
