Blackpool councillor suspended as part of Islamophobia investigation
A Blackpool councillor has been suspended from the Conservative party as part of an investigation into allegedly Islamophobic comments posted online.
Coun Danny Scott, who represents Warbreck on the council, is among 25 former and sitting councillors named in a dossier compiled by @matesjacob, an anonymous Twitter user.
A Conservative party spokesperson said all those found to be party members had been suspended immediately, pending investigation.
Coun Scott, whose wife Michele is also a Blackpool councillor and is standing as the Conservative candidate in Preston at the General Election, declined to comment on his suspension.
The investigation is not expected to be completed until after the December 12 General Election.
Coun Tony Williams, leader of the Conservative group on Blackpool Council, said he was 'disappointed' by the allegations.
He said: "I had not been aware of Coun Scott having any views of this kind, but if it had been brought to my attention I would have suspended him."
