Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips targets two signings

But with loan deals possible until Friday and free agents still available, McPhillips is hoping to further strengthen his squad after last week’s signing of winger Liam Feeney, who made his debut off the bench against Stanley.

McPhillips said: “We are working on another couple, so let’s see what happens there.

“A couple of targets went by the wayside last week.

“We have signed Liam Feeney and that’s a real positive. He got some minutes and he’s looked really good in training. I think he’ll be a fantastic addition to the squad and we know he’s a great lad.”

Another possible deal this week could be Curtis Tilt’s departure to Ipswich Town.

The wantaway defender was left out of the squad on Saturday, when Nathan Delfouneso’s goal looked set to seal back-to-back League One wins for Pool only for Mark Hughes to equalise deep into stoppage time.

McPhillips insists Tilt was left out as a precaution. It follows increased speculation that the Tractor Boys could be set to seal a loan move ahead of Friday’s deadline, with a view to a permanent deal in January.

McPhillips said: “Tilty played three games in a week and he reported in a bit tight, so we didn’t want to take the chance.

“I think he’s just tight all over. Obviously he missed the game at the start of the season but since then he’s played three. The last thing we want is for him to go pop, so that was the decision.”

Tilt has been the subject of interest from Ipswich for much of the summer and their boss Paul Hurst expressed surprise at his omission when asked about the speculation on Saturday.

Tilt and his agent were spotted speaking to McPhillips outside Bloomfield Road after Saturday’s game.

When asked if a deal is likely to happen this week, McPhillips said: “Not to my knowledge. No-one has told me anyway. As far as I know he is our player. We’ll see.”

McPhillips, who has agreed to remain in charge for tomorrow’s League Cup tie at Doncaster Rovers and Saturday’s League One trip to Walsall, was again asked if he was interested in taking the job permanently.

The 49-year-old was again non-committal, saying: “We will see what happens. I think I am taking the game at Donny and then Walsall after that.

“I’ve really enjoyed it. I loved this game. I know all the staff well at Accrington and they’re friends of mine.

“It was competitive and that sort of spirit came out on the pitch.”
