But now the Civic Trust is asking its members and the public to shine the light on a range of buildings, projects and community groups which make our resort better.

Joan Humble, chairman of Blackpool Civic Trust, said there was a chance for all sorts of groups and good work to be in with a chance if people put them forward.

She said: “I would encourage everyone to look at our nomination forms and see if they know buildings, groups or well kept open spaces that should be acknowledged.”

She said this year they had separated out the schools categories from the rest.

“We have our environmental shield for primary and senior schools to honour good work on environmental issues.

“Many do an awful lot but rarely shout about it.

“It could be growing plants at school, introducing environmental matter into the curriculum or having clubs and societies in school on the environment.

“We have lots of categories to recognise achievements in Blackpool, whether that is a great new building put up showing design flair and understanding of its location, or a refurbishment to a very high standard.

“But we don’t just look at buildings, we look at people too.
