Visitors who were locked out of an audience with the Archbishop of York will be able to catch up on the event on the internet.
Hundreds were locked out when the Most Rev and Rt Hon Dr John Sentamu appeared at a 2,000-capacity mission event at Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
But now, anyone unable to get a seat will be able to watch the audience with one ofthe UK’s most senior clerical figures on the Diocese of Lancashire’s YouTube channel.
The people lucky enough to get a seat for the mission at the Tower Ballroom heard the Archbishop speak about his difficult early life in Uganda.
Bishop of Blackburn the Rt Rev Julian Henderson said: “It was impossible to predict the exact numbers and a mission event cannot be ticketed, as it would remove the element of spontaneity for those who wanted to invite friends or family at the last minute.
“I have written to all the parishes we know about who couldn’t get in, and there has been a great understanding of the situation.
“On the night we were delighted to hear spontaneous community singing in the foyer by some people who were unable to get a seat.
“This got a round of applause in the ballroom, led by the Archbishop himself, who also made time to come out and speak to some of the people who were unable to get in.
“And, of course, we are now in the very happy position of searching for an even better venue for the next mission event.”
