Controversial plans to build 10 new beach chalets at The Esplanade in Fleetwood will be decided next week.

Coun Ruth Duffy, the Wyre Labour leader, said she was unhappy at the proposal – but the authority has defended its decision.

As such, planning permission should be granted

And councillors sitting on the planning committee on Wednesday, January 6, have been recommended by officers to give the scheme the green light.

In a report, head of planning David Thow said: “The proposal is considered to be acceptable in principal with no unacceptable impacts on residential amenity, the appearance of the site or streetscene, heritage assets, ecology, flood risk, or highway safety identified.

“As such, planning permission should be granted.”

Fleetwood Town Council objected, citing a risk of flooding, a loss of shade and shelter, and saying the huts would be out of place.

And Fleetwood Civic Society said the huts should be placed elsewhere, saying the demolition of an existing wall would detract from the look of the Marine Hall.
