An application has been submitted in the hope of changing the use of James Allan Racing Bookmakers, in Pringle Court, Thomas’s Weind, Garstang.

Submitted to Wyre Council’s Planning Committee by developer Stefan Gabrysch, from Bilsborrow, and agent Barry Cleminson from Preston-based architects Frank Whittle Partnership, the application sought prior notification for a change of use.

One neighbour was the only objection to the application.

Stephen Shepherd, of Pantry Cafe on Pringle Court, said: “I have no objection to the change of use as such but have real concerns regarding the lack of parking facilities and the implications for my business.

“When it was a betting shop we occasionally had problems with customers using our private car park which is adjacent to 2a Pringle Court but they did not stay for long periods.

“If the premises are used for training purposes customers will inevitably stay longer and may be tempted to use our car park.”

The application asks to change 62 square metres of the currently closed building into a personal training fitness centre.

The only notable change would see the current transaction counter removed with the floor space transformed for personal training and fitness use.

A decision on the application will be made by the council’s planning committee at its next meeting on March 22.
