Lancashire County Council is calling on the Government to give the authority a better deal after a funding drop.

The council has seen its funding from central government reduce by close to 40 per cent since 2010-11, while other county councils have seen a lower reduction of 25 per cent in the same period.

County council services such as social care are in greater demand in Lancashire and other areas with relatively high levels of deprivation, with cuts to the council’s budget proportionately higher.

County Coun David Borrow, the council’s portfolio holder for finance, has written to the Government and the Independent Commission on Local Government Finance on the issue.

He said: “The formula behind the funding has been weighted to reflect the need for services in different council areas, but that has changed significantly and Lancashire is experiencing disproportionately large cuts as a result.”
