A MOTHER-of-four illegally claimed more than £16,000 in benefits when she did not reveal she was living with a man.

Kelly Street, 32, of Kenilworth Gardens, South Shore, admitted failing to notify a change in circumstances.

She was sentenced to do 200 hours unpaid work for the community and ordered to pay £120 costs by Blackpool magistrates.

Michael Woosnam, prosecuting for the Department for Work and Pensions, said between December 2008 and May last year Street had not declared she was living with Martin Edwardson.

Inquiries revealed he worked for the Royal Mail and could earn up to £336 a week.

Robert Castle, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, was under great stress at the time of the offence. Shortly after her partner moved in, her daughter who had been ill, died.

For a time Street could do nothing but she was now getting her life back on track and had started to repay what she owed.
