KIRKHAM residents are being given the chance to decide what happens to hundreds of pounds raised in memory of the baby in the brook.
A public meeting has been called by the town council on Friday night to debate which charity the donated money should go to.
Cash poured in after an appeal was made by Coun Elaine Silverwood and the town’s business group for money to enable the baby boy – whose body was found abandoned in Spen Brook, off Carr Lane, last October – to have a proper funeral.
But Billington’s funeral directors donated their services for the June service, while Preston-based firm McMurray Brothers agreed to donate a headstone – leaving more than £1,000 to be handed over to charity.
Councillors are keen for the residents who donated to decide where that money should go, and the meeting will take place at 6.30pm in the community centre, on Mill Street.
Coun Liz Oades said: “We will be discussing how we’re going to use the money that’s been donated and asking for suggestions where it should go.
“We’ve had some more money donated since the funeral and we want to make sure it goes to a charity people are happy with.”
