District Judge James Hatton, sitting at Blackpool Magistrates Court, sent the case against Burrill to Preston Crown Court.

Burrill, who works in a Cleveleys store, will appear at the higher court on Tuesday March 29.

There was no application for bail made for him by his lawyer Gerry Coyle.

Paramedics were called to Burrill’s home where they found his baby with head injuries.

The child was treated initially at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and then taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where she died.

The baby’s 29-year-old mother was questioned by police but released without charge.

An application by prosecutor Rachel Parker to keep the baby’s identity secret, which has already revealed by Lancashire Police, was turned down by the judge following objections by the Press.
