When the management at The Island, St Annes, announced the plan on Facebook, it attracted some 7,000 hits.

Cinema manager Linda Wong said: “There is clearly quite a lot of demand for this in the area and we are delighted to be showing the films.

“The special screenings entail the lights being dimmed but left on and the volume of the film being lowered and is something the big chain cinemas do as and when they can.

“We are delighted to introduce regular screenings in St Annes for the duration of the school holidays.”

The next screening is Despicable Me 2 on Thursday from 11.30am.
