Police are hunting a man who allegedly tried to bundle a young girl into a van in Blackpool.

The 11-year-old was walking along Faringdon Avenue, in South Shore, with a friend when they became separated on Tuesday afternoon.

She told detectives that as she walked past a red van parked at the side of the road, the driver leant across the passenger seat and tried to drag her inside.

Police investigating the terrifying ordeal are appealing for help to identify the man, who they believe has a tattoo on his left forearm.

Det Insp Lee Wilson, of Blackpool’s public protection unit, said: “This is a very concerning incident and the victim is understandably very shaken by her ordeal.

“While incidents of this nature are rare, we are taking it very seriously and have increased patrols in the area.

“We also have a team of detectives working on the inquiry and are keen to identify the man.

“I would ask people to think back…were you in the area of Faringdon or Tewkesbury Avenue in Blackpool on Tuesday teatime around the time of this incident? Did you notice a small red van in the vicinity?

“If you have any information about this incident please get in touch at your earliest opportunity.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting log number 908 of November 17.
