Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said at the height of the blaze there were eight fire engines in attendance, an aerial ladder and a command unit.

The 70m x 40m building has been severely damaged by fire which was contained by the crews just before 9pm.

Work was carried out to remove roof tiles so that any pockets of fire left in the building could be reached and crews remained in place overnight damping down and making the building safe, and are still out there.

The fire and rescue service said at this stage it is possible the fire was started deliberately and a joint police and fire investigation has begun.
