Anti-frackers take over Defra HQ in day of action

Protesters linked to the Reclaim the Power camp on the Fylde coast have superglued themselves to a government building and shut down building work on a new university research centre.

The campaigners are preventing access to the Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) headquarters in protest against a report released last week containing 63 redactions on the potential impacts of shale gas exploration on rural communities.

They have also halted development of Swansea University’s new Bay Campus because of claims public money is being used for fracking research.

In Lytham, 88 balls representing radium atoms have been placed as part of an art installation to highlight the dangers of fracking.

Elsewhere, campaigners have occupied and shut down a new fracking site at Crawberry Hill, East Yorkshire, where two people are glued to a gate.
