Annual festival set to be ‘biggest yet’

That is the pledge from organisers behind this year’s St George’s Day Festival in Lytham, as plans begin to come together for the annual event.

And hopes are high the Lytham Green-based festival will play host to a world record attempt for the number of people with the same name in one place.

St George’s Day Festival chairman Bob Gallagher, said: “Momentum is really starting to build for this year’s festival and we’re asking people to show their love for Lytham by getting involved.

“Whether you’re a runner, a parent, grandparent or golfer, the festival is a great place to celebrate everything that this great town has to offer and socialise with residents, visitors and their loved ones alike.

“We’ve raised more than £85,000 in the last six years and this year’s festival is going to be bigger and better than ever, with the added bonus of an official Guinness World Record attempt.

“We want anyone with the first name George to sign up via the festival website and help us put Lytham on the map.”

Events at the four-day festival include a golf tournament, the Run Lytham 10K, a comedy night and family fun day, starting on Thursday, April 23.

Event organisers are particularly keen to hear from anyone called George as this year’s festival includes an official Guinness World Record Attempt to get more than 1,096 ‘Georges’ to the festival parade, challenging the current record set in Dubai in 2005 for people called Mohammed
