Anger over plans for 100 new homes

A total of 35 letters of complaint have been received from residents, with nine of the letters from the same house.

Construction is planned for east of Willow Drive but would involve the destruction of one house in the village to gain access to the site.

Story Homes, the company behind the project, say these houses can deliver significant social, economic and environmental benefits to the region.

They add that the development would help Fylde Council meet its housing requirements and address a historic under-delivery of new homes in the area.

Wrea Green Coun Frank Andrews has raised eight different points in voicing his objection to the development.

He said: “This application is an excessive development in a small residential village.

“It is unwanted, not needed and contravenes both the village and Fylde Council Local Plans.

“I join with Wrea Green Parish Council and the Community Association for the Protection Of Wrea Green (CAPOW) Action Group in asking for this application to be rejected.”

John Rowson, spokesman for CAPOW added: “I am very pleased with the recommendations and reasons behind them issued by case officer, Andrew Stell.

“Speaking for the villagers, it is totally inappropriate and unsustainable to put an extra 100 houses in Wrea Green.

“I’ll be making a point to the committee next week that Story Homes Ltd referred to Wrea Green as a town in its application.”

Residents have complained that any development would increase risks of flooding, cause unsuitable services and damage the character of Wrea Green as a rural village.

Wrea Parish Council said Story Homes did have representation in meetings with both the Parish Council and residents.

The proposal is set to go before Fylde Council’s development management committee on Wednesday at The United Reformed Church, St Georges Road, St Annes at 10am.
