Anger at fresh homes bid

A developer has lodged another bid to build properties in a picturesque Fylde village – despite councillors throwing out several previous applications.

Story Homes has applied for outline planning permission to build 49 properties in land off Willow Drive in Wrea Green.

The application follows previous bids to build on the land, including last September, when proposals for 100 homes were rejected, with a second bid adjusted to 49 homes subsequently thrown out.

A planning appeal into both applications is expected to be heard in December, but, before then, the developer has now lodged plans again for 49 properties.

Wrea Green Coun Frank Andrews said the application would be “very, very unpopular” with residents.

He added: “We are extremely disappointed. Not only have 100 homes and 49 homes already been rejected.

“It is almost beyond belief for them to go against the wishes of the village in this way.

“We have 130-odd homes being built or approved from other applications in Wrea Green.

“It is a ridiculous figure for Wrea Green. They have lost sight of common sense.

“They have lost sight of how many homes are being built. It is most than 130. There is only 630 in the village.

“A lot of people are going to be affected. It will be a very, very unpopular move.”

The plans for the site include the demolition of a property in Willow Drive to make access to land to the rear of the road.

Story Homes said the plans would help Fylde Council to address the under delivery of housing in the borough by boosting the supply.

In a design and access statement submitted by the developer it added the properties would be a major boost to the village after close to a year of consultation on the design.

It added: “Proposals embodied by the submitted scheme constitute a development that will assist significantly in meeting the area’s housing targets on a suitable and sustainably located site at the urban edge of Wrea Green.

“The scheme design presented as part of this application is part of nine to 12 months of design development and consultation.”
