Blackpool beauty Joanna Johnson is all smiles as she scoops a national pageant.

The 24-year-old, from Norbreck, will travel to Orlando, Florida, in July to take part in the grand final of Miss Galaxy International.

She was crowned Miss Galaxy North England at the recent Miss Galaxy England 2018 finals, at Park Hall Hotel, Chorley.

The title was an extra Miss Galaxy 10 title – created specially to celebrate the competition’s 10th anniversary.

Joanna had finished first runner-up in the Miss Galaxy England category, giving her automatic qualification for the Galaxy 10 final – made of 10 runner-ups from the other categories.

She said she could not believe it when her name was called out as the winner.

She also scooped the titles of Miss Publicity Queen, Miss Popularity and Best In Evening Wear.

Hairdresser Joanna said: “It was amazing, I’m so happy.

“I came second runner-up in the competition last year and had said this year I wanted to do better.

“The other Galaxy 10 finalists had their category finals on other days, so already knew they would be in the running, I found out with about five minutes to go before the final!

“We had to answer just one question to determine who would win – why we should be the winner. I had to think pretty fast.

“I was so pleased to win the other titles too.

“I really want to put Blackpool on the map and feel so proud to represent my hometown.

“I’m so excited about going to Florida in July.

“There will be 10 of us going from the UK, so it will be great fun.

“Some of the girls I already knew, but am looking forward to spending time to getting to know the other girls too.

“We’ve already all been in touch on social media.

“One of the best things about taking part in competitions is the friends you make.”

Joanna has already raised £340 for the competition’s chosen charity, The Christie Charity.

She said: “I really enjoy doing the fundraising, I’m thinking of doing a charity abseil on my birthday.

“I will continue to raise money for The Christie and also for the Cancer Laryngectomee Trust.”

Joanna has been crowned winner of several beauty pageants in recent years – including Miss Blackpool, Miss G Casino and Miss World Supermodel UK.

She says she loves the feeling of getting up on-stage, the confidence boost and the glamour and dresses.
