FIREFIGHTERS from Blackpool Airport have teamed up with the North West Ambulance Service as part of a new partnership which will see them providing vital medical care.
As well as providing full fire cover, firefighters will now respond to emergency medical calls around the airport.
The team will use their specially equipped vehicles to attend emergencies and provide care until ambulances arrive.
Jim Johnson, senior airport fire officer, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the North West Ambulance Service to provide this vital service.
“Evidence shows that any patient, especially one in a life-threatening situation, who receives fast and effective treatment has a much better chance of recovery.”
Christopher Hyde, the NWAS’ community resuscitation development officer, added: “Over the last year, the Trust has responded to a number of First Aid and emergency response incidents at the airport.
“Co-responder crews at Blackpool Airport Fire Service will provide an additional emergency service response working in the same capacity as our long established Community First Responders.”
