A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital following a crash on a Fylde road.

She was travelling in a silver Volkswagen Golf, which was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Frontera at around 11.40am yesterday.

The woman had to be cut free by firefighters before she was flown to hospital.

Police said she suffered minor injuries in the crash, which happened on the A586 at Great Eccleston.

A man travelling in the Vauxhall also had to be cut free by firefighters and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The road was closed for a short time for an accident investigation.
