Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard, whose constituency includes the DWP office, said: “This is indeed good news and I welcome this Government investment in jobs on the north Fylde Coast, as it shows, contrary to what many think, that the Government remains committed to a civil service presence in the Fylde .

“I would be especially pleased if some of those employed were from those who may currently be unemployed, giving individuals and families a new chance.

“I know locally the jobs market has lagged a little behind the rest of the UK, but still the unemployment rate in my constituency is the lowest it has been since I become the MP in 2010. I do believe more needs to be done and we cannot depend on the council for that, so next year I will launch a jobs and skills fair.

A further 10 jobs in the Preston area have also been advertised.

All have an application closing date of November 9.

The Fylde coast has had a long association with the civil service. During the Second World War hundreds of civil service pensions jobs were moved out of Blitz hit London to Blackpool.

Many thousands of people have worked in various departments from pensions, disability benefits, premium bonds and Land Registry.

But the global crash in 2008 brought cut-backs in its wake and the resort’s public sector was heavily hit as costs had to be cut.

In January 2015, Duncan Griffiths, secretary of the Fylde branch of the PCS civil service union, estimated that over the past 10 years around 3,000 jobs civil service jobs in the Blackpool and Fylde area.
