Plans to provide a new outdoor haven for youngsters in Freckleton have been boosted with a £50,000 injection.

Fylde Council voted through a proposal to fund a revamp of the Freckleton Memorial Park at a full council meeting.

Friends of Freckleton Memorial Park was set up in 2012 by a group of four mums with ideas and plans to make the memorial park a safer and more fun space for families.

The park is dedicated to the 61 people, including 38 children, who died in August 1944 when a USAF Liberator bomber crashed on the village school.

Founding member and chairman of the group, Lyn Braithwaite, said she was “over the moon” with the council’s approval. The group has already raised £9,500 since 2012 through its own fund-raising efforts. Lyn added: “This £50,000 will help tremendously.”
