10 per cent rise in maths at Fleetwood High school

The school on Broadway saw a magnificent 10 per cent rise on last year’s already improving picture in the key subject.

Delighted head teacher Richard Barnes said: “It is pleasing to see so many of our students being rewarded for the hard work they have put in over their time at Fleetwood High School.

“Although a large variety of students have done very well across all subjects, I am particularly delighted with this year’s Maths results, with the impressive 10% rise on last year.

“In addition, I am very pleased with the amount of A and A*s our students have attained this year, with two of our pupils achieving five and six A*s alongside five A grades each.

“However, our results reflect that we are a true community school, with students who have achieved sound results across the ability range, and of whom we are equally proud.”

Would-be software engineer Nathan Poole said he was over the moon with his startling haul of five A*s and seven A grades.

Nathan said: “I’m really pleased with the results.

“I want to be a software engineer but my main aim is to eventually have my own business.

“I’ll be studying four A levels at Cardinal Newman College in Preston, because I’ve heard it’s a really good place to study.

“I’m going to be studying maths, physics, computer science and economics and I’m looking forward to it.”

Megan Scruton also has lofty hopes, planning to eventually work as a forensic psychiatrist. She emerged with an impressive 11 passes and will now be studying psychology, law and business studies A levels at Blackpool Sixth Form College.

She said: “My highest grades were an A in art and design and B in English Literature, but I’m just pleased with the overall results.”
