Sea Life Blackpool well worth a visit!

On a glorious sunny day, we set off for Blackpool. Perfectly situated in the heart of the promenade, the aquarium is easy to find and there is plenty of parking at the rear. Despite it being busy, we didn’t have to queue for long thanks to efficient staff. As you go through, you are given an option of having a family photo taken and next is the rockpool area where you can touch a huge array of star fish.

Showcasing more than 50 dazzling displays and more than 2,000 spectacular aquatic creatures, including tropical sharks, colourful reef fish, octopus, rays and sea horses, Sea Life Blackpool is the perfect way to experience the wonders of underwater life without getting wet!

There are plenty of well-presented specimens from sea horses to a large variety of sharks to “Big Daddy” – a monster crab. All areas are kept clean as are the tanks. plus the staff are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about all the species at the attraction. We were accompanied on our tour by Sarah Copley, who was fantastic and very helpful.

What I found the most impressive was the large shark tank with the walk through tunnel. I could have spent hours there and the fish are totally mesmerising. What my two-and-a-half-year old son enjoyed the most were the underwater bubbles where you can experience what it feels like to be in the deep with all of the sea life.

Always aiming to please its customers, earlier this year Sea Life Blackpool launched a new feature - the Stingray Adventure where you can immerse yourself in the mysterious and graceful world of the stingrays. There is the beautiful Honeycomb Whiptail Rays, Cownose Rays, Blue Spotted Stingrays and Zebra sharks as you explore the tropical reef through underwater tunnels. The new feature was officially opened by “Emmerdale” star Sammy Winward, and has already impressed crowds of children and adults alike.

Our next stop was an exciting experience to witness feeding time for the sharks with specially trained aquarists. Other services offered by Sea Life Blackpool are snorkelling where you come face-to-face with some of the most amazing creatures of the deep. Visitors can have a 15-minute snorkel with a group of over 20 magnificent sharks in the dramatic ocean display.

If snorkelling is not up your street, then Sea Life Blackpool has recently introduced some amazing sleepover experiences, which are proving a hit with groups of children.

In addition, there is a small play area in the cafe at the end and a gift shop as well as the photo desk, which do very good deals and packages for prints, key rings and magnets of your family pictures taken at the entrance.

Visiting Blackpool’s Sea Life is a must for 2015. With plenty of things to keep the kids happy, our visit was rounded off nicely when we all swung into action and played a game of crazy golf before we left.

All in all, a trip to Blackpool’s Sea Life is well worth a visit and we will definitely be returning.
