HERE is the Oxford Hotel, currently closed, at what had been Marton Green, and which gave its name to the area where Waterloo Road, Preston New Road, Whitegate Drive, Park Road and others come together.
In 1963, laburnums still grew against its walls of brown local brick.
Both pictures are from Blackpool Through Time, by local historians Allan Wood and Ted Lightbown.
And they come with the caption: “No doubt its appearance did not fit in with the corporate image of a particular brewery following a series of takeovers and the ‘improvement’ can be seen in a recent photograph of the pub.”
