FREEDOM awaits, but for these girls, seen here on July 2, 1965, schooldays were certainly the happiest.
Christina Leigh-Baker, in the middle row, first left, recalls: “This was our last day at Layton Hill. The group are all sixth formers who would begin their studies at teacher training college or university in the autumn.
“Many of us are still in contact with one another, and revisited the school during the 2002 and 2009 reunions.”
She adds: “Layton Hill provided us all with a happy education in an atmospheric, historic environment, and a place where fond memories remain with us.
“Some of the group attended the junior school, as boarders or day pupils, so we had 14 years of education together from 1951.”
