SOME serious faces here, indeed, when the boys in the Revoe Scouts were joined by Mr Johnson’s daughter (that’s her bottom right) for this photograph in 1915.
The picture is supplied by Sarah Moran, cousin of TV’s Dancing On Ice star Dan Whiston.
She says the photograph was given to her uncle, Bill Whiston, in his Devonshire Road carpet shop by a family friend, the late Robert Fishwick.
Surnames on the back include Fishwick, Whiston, Cunliffe, Baldwin, Eastwood, Smith, Broadbent, Hughes and the little girl named only as “Mr Johnson’s daughter”.
Sarah says: “We think Billy Whiston, who was my great uncle, is the boy to the left of the one dressed as the red indian. Billy was one of eight children. There was also Albert (known as Curly), Freddie, Donny, Sidney, Leslie, Polly and Gaby.
“Albert was killed when he was 14, hit by a cab outside the old Central Station. We think he could be on the photograph but we’re not sure where exactly. Leslie Whiston is my Uncle Bill’s dad. He married Kathleen Harrison and they had six children together.
“We are hoping readers can shed some light on the photograph and the families that feature in it.”
