After being closed due to lockdown conditions for three months, a new safe, socially-distanced way to enjoy all that Mecca offers has been planned.

For general manager Nick Cook, the safety of his customers and team is paramount.

As well as the usual afternoon and evening sessions – which thanks to the size of Mecca Blackpool can be operated safely – he’s organised bingo on the hour every hour, so that anyone worried about crowds can choose a quieter slot.

For many it won’t be about the winning, but the social side they are keen to get back to with friends.

Nick said: “We are a real community, our customers are itching to come back for the social aspect, to see all their bingo buddies, and so are the staff.

“We are all about providing a safe and happy environment.”

And the first session of the day on July 4 may be a ‘thank you’ to key workers and for vulnerable people – see the Facebook page for more details)

What’s on?

Mecca Blackpool is offering even more than the usual bingo sessions. Nick Cook has a host of other events planned, including showing some classic feelgood movies on a giant drive-through cinema in the car park, karaoke, comedy nights, quizzes and football.

“We’ll be offering the session we did before, but it’s been a very long lockdown, and we want to make sure people can have lots of fun. It’s not just about making money through bingo, but to give our Mecca community lots of opportunities to socialise safely and enjoy themselves.”

What’s new?

Thanks to the size of Mecca Blackpool the team will be able to ensure social distancing applies; they may be introducing an online booking system or table service so you don’t have to queue to buy your tickets. Staff on site will guide you, while the Facebook page will be offering daily updates.

Taking time to table serve people, clean regularly and keep queues to a minimum will take time.

As he and his team prepare to welcome customers back, Nick Cook added: We ask people to be patient with us. Our priority will be the safety of every single person who comes in to this building.”
