Rescue dog whose fur was missing because she was covered in fleas is now ready to be re-homed

A dog taken into the care of the RSPCA due to concerns for her welfare is now ready to be re-homed.

When Sky, a 10-year-old Akita, was seen by an RSPCA inspector, she was covered in fleas which had left her with itchy and sore skin.

She was missing fur and also had an untreated ear infection.

Hannah Kirrane, RSPCA animal centre manager at Longview Animal Centre, Old Toms Lane, Stalmine, said: “Sky came into out care via an RSPCA inspector as there were concerns for

her welfare.

"On arrival, she was covered in fleas which had left her with itchy and sore skin.

"She was missing quite a lot of fur and also had an untreated ear infection.

"Her skin has now much improved with most her fur now growing back following antibiotics and medicated baths.

"Her ears will need regular cleaning in her new home along with routine flea treatments.

"Sky is a friendly girl with a relaxed nature who loves everyone she meets and she also enjoys the company of dogs when out on walks so could be rehomed alongside one.

"Sky walks well on a lead but due to her age, her joints have become quite stiff so this is being managed with pain relief and joint supplements.

"Sky is looking for a quieter home without young children."
