Poulton Youth Football Club’s Under 8s ran a 60km virtual run to raise funds for Brian House Children’s Hospice during lockdown.

Twelve players each individually ran 5km, with the team completing a combined total of 60km.

The distance is the equivalent of covering the stadiums of Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City, teams supported by the Under 8s.

Lockdown restrictions meant that all grassroots football had been postponed, so to keep the boys active and to raise funds for charity the managers came up with the idea of a virtual run

which players could complete in their own time with a parent.

The boys chose to raise money for local charity Brian House Children’s Hospice, which is based on Low Moor Road in Bispham.

The boys received sponsorship from friends and family and successfully managed to raise an amazing total of £1,000 for Brian House.

Michelle Lonican, community fundraising manager for Brian House Children’s Hospice, said: “It is so heart-warming to see how active these young footballers have been, running to raise

funds during lockdown.

“They are an inspiration!

“We are so grateful for all they have done; it really means so much to our children and their families who so desperately need our care and support.

“We hope that one day we can invite them in to Brian House so they can see what a difference they have made to life-limited and life-threatened children living on the Fylde coast.”
