BLACKPOOL actress Jenna-Louise Coleman will officially take over as Doctor Who’s new companion when the show returns to our screens later this month.

The programme, which had a press launch on Friday, is back on BBC 1 for a new series on March 30.

Former Arnold School head girl Jenna-Louise has taken over from Karen Gillan who played the doctor’s previous assistant Amy Pond.

Jenna-Louise, 26, made two appearances in the hit show last year, but will star alongside Matt Smith throughout this series.

She has previously had prominent roles in the ITV soap Emmerdale and BBC 1 drama Waterloo Road.

The actress made a surprise appearance in September on Doctor Who in the role of Oswin, who was in fact a Dalek.

The first episode, The Bells of St John, has been penned by Steven Moffat and will follow The Doctor and his companion as they discover something strange with London’s wi-fi system.
