Fleetwood is mostly known for its rich fishing heritage. It was once one of the biggest fishing ports in the country which was key to employment and was at the heart of the tight knit community. These photos from the archives show different elements of Fleetwood’s history, including its leisure and tourism, business and of course, its depth of community spirit.

Flag Street lived up to its reputation in 1953 when a street party was held for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Sadly the street no longer exists.

The official opening of Broadway. The ceremony took place at the junction with Poulton Road. The houses in the background are now shops and the furnishings store to right is now Domino's Pizza

Crowds watch the clean-up get underway in Blakiston Street during the 1927 floods. The large building on the right is St Margarets Church, now an apartment building

Custom House Lane became the base for the Fleetwood customs people in 1873, when the Custom House stood on the corner of Elizabeth Street and the flat roofed building was the customs stores. This building was later divided into houses, but all of this was demolished in the 1960s.
