We Are Undefeatable is a campaign led by 15 health and social care charities that have come together with National Lottery funding and support from Sport England.

Funding has been received to deliver a 12-month pilot which will provide education and raise awareness of physical activity opportunities within the community. Active Blackpool will test the impact of the programme.

The main target audience for the pilot will be those who are referred onto the reablement programme delivered by the council’s Adult Social Care service. A six-week programme involving the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC) and community sessions will be provided.

The pilot will also deliver training to non-clinical employees about physical activity and long-term health conditions in order to raise awareness of the health referral programme within Blackpool.

Sarah Ruane, strategic lead of Health at Sport England, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Blackpool Council and its Active Blackpool team to fully embrace the We Are Undefeatable campaign across the local area. We look forward to seeing how the programme progresses and the learning they can share with others working in Adult Social care.”

Coun Maria Kirkland, cabinet member responsible for leisure, said: “It is fantastic to see Active Blackpool presented with the opportunity to pilot this work with Adult Social Care.

“It is important that we get people with long-term health conditions active in a way that works for them, despite the ups and downs and unpredictability of their condition – I hope the campaign will become a success and be rolled out fully.”
