A number of failings at PNP Care Home, on the Prom in Blackpool, were identified by the health watchdog Care Quality Commission, including:

- No oversight of accidents and nothing done to reduce risk;

- Water temperatures of up to 50 degrees celcius putting people in danger of scalds;

- Fire safety equipment audits not being carried out often enough, putting people at risk; and

- Residents not being supported to have ‘maximum choice and control of theirlives’.

A spokeswoman said the home, which now has a new manager, is working with the CQC and council to improve.

She said: “We are very disappointed with the report but it was agreed that the residents here are happy and their relatives are happy with the care they have received.”

The home, which registered with the CQC in 2016 and has 12 single and double bedrooms over three floors, was given the lowest rating in four out of five key areas: Safety, effectiveness, responsiveness, and how well-led it is. It was told it ‘requires improvement’ in the ‘caring’ category.

Robert Johnson, 81, of Fernleigh Close, Bispham, said his wife Maureen, 76, has been staying at the home since last year. He said: “I’m only concerned with my wife being looked after and I’m quite happy with it.”

Rosemary Gilliam, 57, whose mum Sylvia, 82, also stays there, said she was ‘shocked at the report’. “[My mum] has been so happy in there. I wouldn’t move her.”
