Public Health England (PHE) is involved in an investigation while infection-control is under way at the unit where she was treated.

Prof Mark O’Donnell, Medical Director of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We offer our deepest condolences to the family. Our thoughts and full support are with them at this very difficult time.

“A full investigation will be conducted by the Trust and therefore it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”
