It comes after a single positive Covid-19 case, headteacher Jonathan Clucas said this afternoon in a letter to parents.

After getting advice from national health chiefs, he said: "We have followed this guidance and our school Covid-19 risk assessment and have identified that children in Year Four and after-school club may have been in close contact with the affected person.

"Year Four staff and children will now self-isolate, along with after-school club staff and children, until [Thursday] October 8."

Parents of the affected children do not need to isolate, however, and neither do their siblings, who are expected to still turn up to classes as long as they too are not in Year Four.

Children whose siblings attend after-school club should also continue as normal.

Mr Clucas told The Gazette: "As you can imagine we have prepared for this scenario quite extensively and it was important to follow our own and Public Health England (PHE) procedures as soon as we received news of a positive case this morning.

"PHE advice was clear, and corresponding actions are all taken with the health and safety of the community at the forefront of any decisions."

A string of schools on the Fylde coast have recorded positive Covid-19 cases and sent children into isolation since pupils returned earlier this month following a lengthy stint of learning from home.

That's despite research last month claiming “children play a minor role in transmission of the virus and schools play a minor role in transmission of the virus”.

Affected schools include Boundary in Grange Park, Montgomery in Bispham, Westcliff in Bispham, Hodgson in Poulton, Baines in Poulton, Breck in Poulton, Devonshire in North Shore, Armfield in South Shore, Bispham Endowed, St John Vianney's in Marton.

Blackpool Sixth Form has also had confirmed cases.

There have been no serious cases reported here however.

There have also been no confirmed widespread outbreaks linked to local schools.
