Changes to NHS in Blackpool meant £1.05m extra was saved last year
Blackpool's health commissioning group, which organises and pays for residents' health care, ended the last financial year with £1.05m more in savings than expected, documents showed.
The Clinical Commissioning Group had set a saving target of £6.25m, but achieved £7.3m by bringing in “new models of care with prevention and treatment central to these, enabling patients to be seen in more appropriate settings and reducing expenditure on acute [hospital] care.”
The Extensive Care Service, which cares for people over 60 with two or more chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, has previously been credited with easing the pressure of Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
And costly prescriptions for a number of items, including hair lice lotion and paracetamol, have been axed.
