Blackpool Victoria Hospital eases restrictions for 20-week baby scans

Blackpool Victoria Hospital will be allowing one partner to accompany mums-to-be to their 20-week-baby scan from Monday, June 15.

But patients are still being asked to attend any of their other scans alone to lower the number of people in the buildings and lessen face-to-face contact to minimise the risk of spreading Covid-19.

The situation will be constantly reviewed and the restrictions will be relaxed as soon as it is safe to do so.

A spokesperson for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: "While we are able to allow one partner into the room, unfortunately we cannot allow children to attend at this time.

"We understand this will be difficult for families but it is important to limit the number of visitors to the hospital to help reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

"The scan team looks forward to welcoming you back to our department."

Patients and their partners should not attend the appointment if they, or a member of their household, have any symptoms associated with Covid-19.

The most common symptoms of coronavirus are a new continuous cough, a high temperature (over 38°C), and a loss or change to your sense of smell taste (anosmia).

Despite the relaxation of the restrictions, there will still be strict measures in place to prevent the spread of the virus, including staying two metres apart from other people in the waiting areas.

Others include:

- Patients and partners will be asked to bring their own face coverings. Masks will be available for those who haven't brought one

- Entering the hospital via the Main Entrance and checking in at the White Reception on the ground floor of the Women and Children's unit

- Arrive on time for the appointment, but not early, to ensure safe social distancing

- Disinfecting hands with alcohol gel before entering the room

- Partners will be asked to remain seated and maintain a two-meter distance from the sonographer at all times

- Mobile phones should be switched off and remain in a pocket or bag
