The latest update from the NHS states that another 866 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in the UK since yesterday (Thursday, April 9).

It brings the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 8,114.

The latest victims of the virus are aged between 27 and 100 years old. The NHS said 56 of the 866 patients (aged between 40 and 93 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

The latest figures include 67 people who died at hospitals in the North West in the past 24 hours, as well as a further 1,263 people who have tested positive in the region.

It brings the total number of confirmed cases in the North West to 7,533.

The NHS said the families of those who have died have been informed.
