High levels of staff absence at South Shore Academy, on St Anne's Road, means the school will be closed to Year 10 pupils from tomorrow.

The school was closed to Year 7,8 and 9 pupils as of today, following a letter passed out to parents on Friday, March 13.

It is anticipated that all year groups will be able to return to school on Monday, March 23.

Principal Neil Reynolds said: "To reassure you, we have no confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the school. This partial closure is about managing the school safely given higher levels of staff absence as people follow the government’s new advice about self isolating.

"It is imperative that students in Year 11 attend the academy as normal to enable them to continue to study for the GCSEs. We apologise for the inconvenience the partial closure may cause."

English and maths work packs have been given to Year 10 pupils, with further work packs being available from main reception tomorrow.

Children who are eligible for free school meals will be able to pick up a packed lunch from the school main office between noon and 1pm each day.
