Headteacher Richard Barnes said: "These results have been the subject of so much speculation over recent weeks. Understandably, it has caused a few sleepless nights for our students, their families and our staff.

"That is why it is so pleasing that our students are opening envelopes that contain results based on their individual talents, skills and, crucially, hard work. After an extraordinary end to their time at the school, it is great so see so many happy people.

Among the smiling faces was Mia Idris. Mia secured nine strong passes, which has opened the door for her to start a career in fashion.

She said: “Our school organised a trip to Paris last year. We drove down the Champs-Elysees and I saw all the wonderful clothes in the shops, and I thought that is a world I want to be part of.

"To get the results that enable me to go to college to study fashion is amazing. The school, particularly my head of year, has been incredible – but I couldn’t have done this without my friends and family. We have all supported each other."

Mr Barnes added: “The Class of 2020 should be rightly delighted with these results. Yet, it is important to remember that our students should be applauded for more than their academic achievements.

"We have had students volunteering in foodbanks throughout lockdown, and some of the more entrepreneurial ones have used this period to set up their own businesses. They excel on the sports fields, impress in the art rooms and ‘wow’ on the stage.

"They leave us as well-round young people who are making a real and tangible difference to our community. While these results put the school on a really strong platform, it is our students that really make us stand out from the crowd.

"Finally, thank you to our staff and our parents. This has been a troubling time for us all, and they should be congratulated for how we have worked together to help our students. It is a real team effort."
