REVEALED: Name of Blackpool's new school, set to open in 2018
The name of Blackpool's new school, set to open on the former Arnold site, has been revealed.
The ‘all-through’ school’s academy, which will cater for children aged from two to 16, will be called The Avenue Academy, and will also be given the strapline, ‘An academy to be proud of’, bosses announced.
Felicity Greeves, chief executive officer for the Fylde Coast Academy Trust (FCAT), which will run the school, said: “We invited comments and suggestions for a new name on our website and were delighted with the high level of interest and response.
“After much thought and discussion, we picked The Avenue Academy as it relates well to the number of roads in the area with avenue in their name. The name also reflects the considerable green space and trees around the school, which FCAT is keen to preserve.”
Over the next few weeks, FCAT staff will be putting up three small temporary notice boards at the school, in Lytham Road, South Shore, which will inform neighbours the land has been acquired by the trust.
A leaflet is also set to be posted through letterboxes, while numerous consultation events are set to be held throughout 2017.
Arnold, said to be in a poor condition, will be developed into a 60-place nursery, primary school, and secondary school. It will cater for 1,180 youngsters at full capacity, and is set to open in 2018.
It remains unclear whether the plans include the demoliton of the existing school buildings.
