Record breaking effort draws the cash

Enterprising youngsters at a Kirkham school have been setting new records by selling postcards to help save the planet.

Year seven pupils at Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form have collected £1,068.76 for the Friends of the Hwange Trust by selling postcards with their individual giraffe designs.

The Royal Avenue school has been raising funds for this charity by selling bespoke postcards for a number of years.

Each year the students have gained more and more support and this time they have raised the highest amount yet.

Art teacher Miss Vikki Wignall said: “I’m so proud of the Year seven students.

“They have design some exceptional postcards and have worked hard to sell them in aid of charity.

“Is is fantastic that so many of the students’ family and friends have supported this fundraising project.”

She added: “I would like to thank everyone who donated and helped our students raise such a great deal of money.”

The Friends of Hwange Trust (FOH) was formed as a result of the extreme drought of 2005 that severely affected Hwange National Park, in Zimbabwe,leaving a wake of thousands of dead animals.

Since its inception the Trust has successfully been solely responsible for 10 waterholes in Hwange NP, repairing and maintaining the diesel engines, boreholes and the troughs. as well as helping endangered animals

Last year the Carr Hill pupils raised £1,000 for the charity through their artwork.
