Pupils are helping to feed the needy
Kind-hearted pupils have thousands of reasons to celebrate after helping feed the area's hungry.
Cardinal Allen Catholic High School’s students were hard at work fund raising for two local charities - and between them managed to raise more than £2,200.
Class groups organised their own activities to support Blackpool Food Partnership and Fleetwood Food Bank.
The events ranged from competitions, raffles, film nights and sponsored silences, as well as staff makeovers and “pie face” competitions.
Between them youngsters netted a massive £2,212.72 in less than five weeks, which has been split equally between the two charities.
Nikki Hart from the Blackpool Food Partnership and Colin Brown from Fleetwood SVP went into school to meet some of the students who had raised the most money and to collect their cheques.
Pupils were told by Nikki that the donation will help keep the Blackpool Food Partnership van on the road to collect and deliver supplies.
Colin said the SVP would use the money to pay the rent at their premises and buy any items that they don’t receive enough donations of (especially UHT milk and rice).
He said Fleetwood Food Bank fed more than 5,000 people last year.
As a reward some of the students were invited to the Blackpool Food Partnership for a tour and to help put together food parcels.
A spokesman for the school said pupils were “ very excited about this, and are proud of their growing links with these two organisations.”
