Official seal of approval for popular primary school

Heyhouses School pupil Eisa Janjua, aged 9, has written to the Queen inviting her to the opening of the new building and has received a reply.

The old junior school builing at Heyhouses Endowed CE Primary School, in Lytham St Annes, has been demolished to make way for a state-ofthe art facility for reception and year three to six pupils.

This single storey building includes 15 classrooms, a hall and studio, a library, a multi-use resource area, kitchen, staff room, office accommodation, an interview room and toilets.

New sports pitches, hard play and informal social areas have been built as well as a new car park.

Some smaller-scale refurbishment has also been done to the separate infant school building on the adjacent site including the creation of a library, group room and staffroom.

The project, funded and managed by Lancashire County Council and built by Conlon Construction, was needed to cope with growing demand for extra places.

Heyhouses has been providing an extra 20 reception places since September 2012. At present 583 pupils attend the school, which will increase to 630 by 2019.

Headteacher Elizabeth Hodgson said: “The new building has made such a huge difference to what we can offer to pupils, parents and the community at our school.

“The learning environment has been improved because of the increased space we now enjoy.”

A church service St Anne’s will precede the opening.
