Millfield pupils praised for "sacrificing" exams in pandemic

The Millfield class of 2020 are an exceptional group in more ways than one

The Science and Performing Arts College headteacher Nicola Regan has nothing but admiration for the teenagers who have just collected their GCSE result.

She said: "We are incredibly proud of our students’ results and believe that they are a true reflection of what they would have achieved, if they had sat the exams in summer.

"These students can now look forward to the next step in their life journey, knowing that the country has supported them as best they could."

Nicola dismissed claims that the year group was a “lost generation”, and said: "They are a group of young people that we needed to support by having recognition and understanding of what they have been through.

"These young people will go on to be the best that they can be, they are our country’s future, and they will be remembered by many as brave and resilient.

"To help the country fight the virus, they had to sacrifice one significant element of their education – exams - something that has never happened before.

"As a country, and a community, we all need to remember this when these students go on to apply for jobs or university courses.

"We wish our exceptional class of 2020 every success in the next step of their journey and wish them happy and bright futures.
