Medalist visits sporting pupils at resort college
Students at Blackpool Sixth Form College received a special visit from Commonwealth medalist and former Team GB hockey player Charlotte Hartley.
Charlotte became one of the youngest members selected to represent England at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006 at the age of 17.
The following year she represented Great Britain in the Sydney Youth Olympics, where her team won top honours.
She visited the college on Blackpool Old Road to show her support for students taking part in ‘Sportivate Boxercise’ sessions, which are aimed at reducing exam stress.
The £56 million Lottery funded programme aims to give more young people the chance to discover a sport that they love over a period of six weeks.
A college spokesman said: “The programme is aimed at those who are not currently choosing to take part in sport in their own time, or are doing so for a very limited amount of time, and will support them to continue playing sport in their community after the six weeks is up.
“During the six weeks a participant may work towards an event or personal challenge.
“Charlotte joined in some of the activity and chatted to the participants regarding how she dealt with stress and anxiety when competing and also the benefits of using exercise to combat stress and anxiety.”
